Nanny Share

Sharing the care with another family.

What is a Nanny Share?

A Nanny Share is when two families who live close to each other, share the use of a nanny. The nanny therefore works for both families. This is often a popular choice if two families know each other and live near each other. It is an arrangement that can benefit both families as it means that parents can share the nanny’s salary, tax and national insurance contributions. They therefore have all the benefits of having a nanny but at a lower cost. The nanny will typically be based at one home or will split their time between the two homes on different days.

Types of Nanny Share

There are a few options when it comes to Nanny Share and it is up to the families to decide what works best for them. Here are the most popular types of Nanny Share:

Complete shared care: This is when the nanny is shared for the full week.
Part-time shared care: When the nanny is shared for 2 or 3 days a week.
Split week shared care: This is when the two families’ children are not looked after at the same time. The nanny looks after one family’s children part of the week and then the other family’s children the rest of the week.
Main family shared care: This is when one family is the main employer of the nanny for the whole week, but they share the childcare with another family for 2 or 3 days in the week.

The Roles of a Shared Nanny

A Shared Nanny has similar roles to a Live-in or Live-out Nanny; it is their time which might be split between two families. They are there to look after your children and help out with various duties.
